COP on the Hill: Stories from the week of September 11, 2015

Stories from the week of September 11, 2015

Karma: Just before entering a bldg near the White House, the Director of the National Drug Control Policy (Drug Czar’s office), Michael Botticelli walked out of the Starbucks. We greeted, I mentioned our last encounter at the House Judiciary hearing and gave him another minute of info on the Swiss HAT program (heroin assisted suicide).

Being known on a personal basis with a Drug Czar is priceless. Just showing up continues to pay dividends.

Maybe Important :   Regarding Black Lives Matter – At the end of the OSI (Open Society Institute) quarterly ‘Justice Roundtable’ (45 organizations meet to share and network) I urged all those with White House contacts to urge the POTUS to address my profession and say; ’44 years ago the police profession was told by President Nixon that we were at war with drugs and anyone possessing them.   The police began to believe that every person was a ‘potential enemy combatant’ and treated them accordingly. This has too many officers on a hair trigger. I, Barack Obama, as POTUS, hereby rescind this policy. Going forward, this country will treat drug use as a medical, not criminal issue.

Effective immediately, the police of this country should not treat all citizens as ‘potential enemy combatants.’   This should change should reduce the unjustified lethal violence against citizens by the police.’

Afterwards a prominent DC judge thanked me for the idea and he would forward my suggestion to his WH contact.

Note: I will attend one day (of three) of the annual Black Congressional Fall Blowout conference in DC. I will spread the above message to all I come in contact with. (note: I am up to walking slowly w/o a cane).

*      Consider being a member of COP at $30.00 or more per year.   All contributions are tax-deductible.  30 dollars buys all the copy paper COP uses in one year.   Law Enforcement’s voice in opposition to current policy is vital on the Hill to achieve a repeal of federal prohibition.  COP provides that voice.  www.citizensopposingprohibition.org
