COP on the Hill: Stories from the week of January 6, 2023

Seems almost like in a Dream: Wednesday arrived and I headed to the Hill for the first time in nearly three years. The Republican fulfilled their promise to open the office buildings to the general public. Like Riding a Bicycle: Walking to the Longworth Bldg, I spotted AOC on the curb, waiting to use the crosswalk near the Capitol. “Congresswoman, may I walk with you for one minute?” I introduced myself, she introduced her Legislative Director and I gave them the 60 second elevator pitch. At 61 seconds I thanked her for her time and went back towards Longworth. Piece of cake! Yeah! The day continued with great karma, as I had brief chats with two other Members, gave presentations to 12 staffers and had a good number of them remember and say it was nice to see the cowboy hat and or big buckle back in the hallway. PS. I AM Older…after 4 hours I was pooped, above and below the neck. Sample of my last paragraph: (email came the next day) Good Afternoon Howard, It was nice to see you again and having the chat. I’m happy to take a look at the suggestion you had for the Drug Policy Reform Act and can bring that up with the groups who we have been working with. Weekly Activities: 3844 Presentations to Congressional staffers… 29 this week… 338 personal chats with a Member of Congress… 03 this week AOC ( D-NY), McGovern (D-MA) and Glen Thompson (R-PA) 435 chats with other elected officials, state reps, senators, VIPs, etc 1 this week (campaign director who just got Senator Johnson (R-WI) re-elected).

Named the “Grand Central Station of the Conservative Movement.” * Consider being a member of COP at $40 or more per year. All contributions are tax-deductible. 40 dollars buys all the copy paper COP uses in one year. Law Enforcement’s voice in opposition to current policy is vital on the Hill to achieve a repeal of federal drug prohibition. COP provides that voice. www.citizensopposingprohibition.org
