Weekly Activities:
Spend 15K or just show up? I had done my 6 presentations on Thursday and had some free time before quitting time. I was going door to door, learning the contact info of aides that I missed earlier in the year.
Just after entering Mike Kelly’s office (R-PA), in popped the Member. Per usual protocol, we shook hands and I had 15 seconds to give him the COP mission statement. After I said, “we want to make drugs a medical issue versus criminal,” he put his hand on my shoulder and said, ‘come into my office and let’s talk.’
15 minutes later he had an obligation and we ended our very informal exchange of ideas. His 42 y/o son had become a heroin addict at 14 and had been in and out of treatment and prisons ever since; currently his son is doing hard time in a PA state prison. He agrees with COP completely regarding making drugs a medical issue, he is friends with HR 1359 co-author Don Bacon (R-NE) and he will look hard at the bill.
Note: for a lobbyist to have 15 minutes of alone time with a House Member usually runs about 1K/minute = 15K….check made payable to campaign fund (all very legal).
This Week:
5020 Presentations to Congressional staffers… 12 this week…

Weekly Activities:
Elevator Pitch: I recognized Dr. Burgess coming down the hall of Rayburn. I asked if I could walk him to his office. “Sure.” 30 seconds later, I learned he had worked in a methadone clinic while a young doctor and would look favorably on the bill to increase access.
Refreshing: CMan Lawler came early to the Grover meeting and 4 of us had a solid chat for 5 minutes. It is unusual for me to have the chance to just chat about lots of stuff with a Member. Of course, I inserted the idea of 10th amendment for MJ and promoted greater access to treatment/methadone for citizen addicts.
Not for Nothin: COP cracked 5,000 presentations to Congressional Staffers this week. It is a solid, good feeling in my soul to have had the chance to possibly have an impact at the federal level. As my knee becomes weaker, my spirit is soaring as high as ever! Many, many thanks to all who have helped me on this journey. Your moral and or financial support are crucial.

Weekly Activities:
534 to go: Cman Mfume gave me a moment this week. After I gave him my mission statement, he responded that Kurt Schmoke had had the right idea 50 years ago (legalize heroin to solve a host of problems). I responded, “I stand on the broad shoulders of Mayor Schmoke and represent at least 7,000 other cops who take the same position.” How I love a person of courage and wisdom. 534 to go!
Grover meeting: you note each week I attend the Norquist center-right meeting. Besides sitting at the main table and being Grover’s ‘go to expert’ on all matters of Modern Prohibition, I have 2-5 minutes chats with folks running for Congress, running organizations and other experts. Moreover, I feel so good about those 2 hours of presenting my Libertarian/Police POV….Love my job!! At this stage of my career, it has become vitally important that I enjoy my work And I Do.
Off Duty Marketing: As you know, I wear my Ask Me Why shirt pretty much 24-7, when I am not in Congress..this week i went to Costco Pharmacy to request my medication. The woman at the counter opened with, “Mr. Wooldridge your order for the heart meds is almost ready. I will let you know.” I was SPEECHLESS. After I asked, she said, ‘ I have seen you for 15 years, noticing you switched from Legalize Pot to Legalize Heroin a few years ago. You are hard to miss.’
She left me stuttering. Wow!
This Week:
4099 Presentations to Congressional staffers… 10 this week…
370 personal chats with a Member of Congress… 03 this week: Cman Mfume (D-MD), Cman Burlison (R-MO), Delegate Gonzalez (R-Puerto Rico) in Spanish naturalmente
449 chats with other elected officials, state reps, senators, VIPs, 05 this week…4 running for Congress and an expert on how to run a Republican campaign. I always make the offer to help them articulate a conservative POV on drugs.

Weekly Activities:
Happy to Help: A buddy of mine at the Grover meeting went out his way to introduce to me an Iraq War vet who has just started lobbying in Congress. He wants the Defense Dept to award a Purple Heart to all those soldiers who were injured by Agent Orange in Vietnam and the burning oil pits, etc. in Iraq…he is having great difficulty arranging meetings with Congressional staffers. I gave him some pointers and next week he will go with me on a few of my meetings to see how I do it; AKA I will mentor him…feels good
Florence Nightengale / Personal Time: A short week, as my fiancé Jean had medium serious foot surgery, needed a driver and serious care the first 24 hours.. it was my first time to be a health care provider/nurse. Not fun and was interesting.

Weekly Activities:
No Sale: I had a long, 35 M chat with the legislative director for a Michigan Republican this week. Despite my sole request being to look into increased treatment access for fenti addicts, he launched into 1) marijuana had not been proven safe and more studies needed to be done. 2) perhaps a wall would stop the fenti coming from Mexico 3) more support/money for the police and other stuff, etc…It had been a long time since someone in Congress had used ideas from the last century to use in a chat…
PS…in case you did not know, there is essentially zero.zero heroin being sold in USA.
Spiritual Help: After lunch 2 gentlemen and their wives stopped by and thanked me for my service as an officer. We got into a 10-minute chat about how much the nation / Members of Congress needed God’s help to put us back on track. Turns out they were the Christian and Jewish chaplains for the House. Yes, a paid position.
This week: solid again.
