Cops on the Hill
Stories from the week of November 5, 2021
Speaking Truth to Power: A. I had a good chat with the communications director for Minority Leader McConnell this week: topic…National Decrim. I very carefully explained that decrim has nothing to do with legalization and then provided the good news out of Oregon regarding the 80% reduction in police action (tickets) & 80% reduction in car searches for simple possession of hard drugs.
B. At Grover Norquist’s meeting this week, the gentleman who ran the Youngkin campaign for governor of Virginia happened to sit next to me. Of course, I wear my mask (LEGALIZE HEROIN) during the meeting for safety and cheap advertising.
Before he left, I gave him my card with the message of let’s chat about drug policy. You never know.
More cheerful news at the bottom.

* Consider being a member of COP at $40.00 or more per year. All contributions are tax-deductible. 40 dollars buys all the copy paper COP uses in one year. Law Enforcement’s voice in opposition to current policy is vital on the Hill to achieve a repeal of federal drug prohibition. COP provides that voice. www.citizensopposingprohibition.org
The latest annual survey from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration shows yet again that the spread of marijuana legalization for adults to more states is not driving an increase in youth use. Teen cannabis consumption actually dropped in 2020. |
