COP on the Hill: Stories from the weeks of July 15 & 22, 2016

COP on the Hill

Stories from the week of July 15 & 22, 2016

A Long Time Coming: On Wednesday Senator Graham held the first ever positive hearing on the medical use of MJ. 8 witnesses. IMHO, 5 were positive, 2 neutral and the SAM rep was a typical muffin head, spouting the prohibition line. I thanked the Senator for his efforts.
A shout out to Don Murphy of MPP who has had many chats with Graham the last year to convert him to our side.

Life Keeps Getting in the Way: I had an excellent day with Congressional aides on the 13th with 7 presentations. Then my dear brother called from North Carolina…could I be his Best Man at his wedding—- tomorrow? And he made an honest woman of his girl friend of 12 years. I’ll be back to work, next week…God willing and the creeks don’t rise.

This week’s stats:

133 personal chats with a Member of Congress.. 01 this week (Senator Graham R/SC)
2190 Presentations to Congressional staffers.. 07 this week
202 chats with other elected officials, state reps, senators, VIPs, etc. 01 this week
13 interviews and reports in minor media = 01 this week. ( Politico )
84 published letters to the editor (value per MAPINC in free publicity: $83,000).. 01 this week* below
2 meetings/hearings

COP stats since inception: August 2009

67 Radio Interviews.. 00 this week
42 published interviews/foto in major (daily) newspapers or magazine… 0 this week
62 Appearances/Interviews on major TV/Radio/Print media..This week (Fox, ABC, CBS, NBC, Univision, BBC, CNN, NPR)…02 this week (NBC twice)

24 major conferences attended – (United Nations drug conf, CPAC, LULAC, NRA, CBC, ASA, DPA, Dem & Repub. Presidential conventions., National Review, etc) 0this week
* 2 editorials in daily papers mentioning Howard’s efforts & in support of COP position
Weekly attendance at Grover Norquist’s Wednesday brunch attended by 150 conservative leaders. Named the “Grand Central Station of the Conservative Movement.”
* Consider being a member of COP at $30.00 or more per year. All contributions are tax-deductible. 30 dollars buys all the copy paper COP uses in one year. Law Enforcement’s voice in opposition to current policy is vital on the Hill to achieve a repeal of federal prohibition. COP provides that voice. www.citizensopposingprohibition.org

POT IS NOT A PLAY TOY

“Smoking cannabis is safe” ( Letters, July 15 ):

Cannabis is a drug. Like all drugs, its use can be problematic. Fed studies show about 9 percent of users become addicted. It is not a play toy. I would give it the same rules and respect as beer.
